Biographie
I’m Shevanthi, though I go by Shev. I’ve worked in mental health and social work for more than 20 years across inpatient, outpatient, addictions, and community settings throughout Ontario. Over the last several years, my practice has become increasingly focused on helping adults recover from trauma and PTSD, particularly healthcare professionals, first responders, adults recovering from medical trauma, and survivors of interpersonal trauma. Trauma does not always look the way people expect it to. You may be functioning well at work, taking care of the people around you, and getting through your days while privately dealing with intrusive memories, avoidance, irritability, guilt, sleep difficulties, or a sense that you are simply not yourself anymore. Sometimes people have spent years coping before recognizing that what they are experiencing may be connected to trauma. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical, but therapy with me is also active and structured. Rather than offering endless supportive talk therapy, I focus on evidence-based treatments with strong research supporting their effectiveness for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). I am listed on the official CPT Provider Registry, reflecting additional training and experience in this structured treatment for PTSD. I also provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) when depression is part of what is keeping someone stuck. We will work together to understand how your experiences continue to affect you and what may be maintaining the difficulties you are experiencing now. Treatment has a clear direction, with the goal of helping you develop skills and strategies you can continue using long after therapy ends. Starting trauma therapy can feel daunting, even when you know something needs to change. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or which treatment is right for you. A free 20-minute consultation gives us an opportunity to talk about what has been happening, answer your questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.
